How classifications work
1 · Fundamentals (required)
- Revenue, earnings, margin and cash-flow trajectories are each classified independently over 8 quarters.
- A stock needs STRONG or IMPROVING fundamentals to reach any inflection or extended-leader stage — no exceptions.
- FLAT or DETERIORATING fundamentals cap the stage at WATCH / NO_INFLECTION / DETERIORATING, however strong the price move.
2 · Price (confirming, not required)
- Confirmation asks: is the market only beginning to react? (20/60/120-day returns + volume)
- Maturity asks a separate question: how much of the move already happened? (1–2 year return)
- MATURE/EXTENDED maturity routes a qualifying stock to EXTENDED_LEADER — a distinct population, never blended into the early/developing/confirmed lists.
3 · Supporting evidence
- Industry (SIC-peer 120d return) and analyst expectations are reported for context but never move the stage.
- UNKNOWN is a first-class state — never counted as a negative signal.
